Pruning ornamental shrubs
- Cut with a pruning saw , bow saw or loppers and remove branches about 10cm-15cm from the ground.
- For large branches, make an under cut and saw off the branch well above where you intend to make your final cut. This removes most of the weight and helps prevent any damage from the bark tearing down the stem.
- Once you have cut off the main bulk of the branch, make a neat tidy final cut at an angle to allow water to run off.
- Do not use any sealants, there are none
approved for organic gardeners. This is an unnecessary practice, the wound
will heal faster and better
without.
